Charlie Chaplin Cafe Malaysia @ One City Mall

 photo DSC_3833-2.jpg
I've been to One City Mall a couple of times now and was always attracted to the decorations at the Charlie Chaplin Cafe but did not go in as I already had my meal. Finally, I got try it out during one of the weekend for a brunch session.

Eggs Benedict, RM16

 photo DSC_3816-2.jpg
Pasta Forrest Mushroom & Herbs, RM25
Creamy pasta that comes with a charcoal bread which I find was just alright but the pasta was amazing.

Ordered warm water but it tasted weird, like tap water with the new metal taste. So we requested for boiled water instead. Service was alright but can be improved. Food wise, I'll definitely come back again to try their pizza and the rest of the items.

A healthy twist to KLGCC's menu!

Meals at golf clubs are often associated with selections of club sandwiches, sinful finger goods or possible choices at are usually limited to a golfer's palate. The exclusive Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club's (KLGCC) culinary team was set to create an additional menu with one objective in mind - to take your palate around the globe with a healthy twist.

Thanks to Dila for the invitation, I got the chance to taste KLGCC's latest dishes! Headed over to KLGCC after work and luckily the traffic wasn't too bad and I arrived on time. We got introduced to Executive Chef, Arnold Kwok during the tasting session. He said that as society is becoming more health conscious, KLGCC also want to serve healthy meals that will appeal to all age range.

 photo DSC_3944-2.jpg
[L-R] Citrus Kiwi, Apple Spinach, Tumeric Veggie and Mango Berries

The first item that was served was a variety of blended juices. Different from the normal juices, these healthy blended variety keeps the fruit whole and the fibre intact so that the nutrients are supplied in the right amount. Among the four, my least favourite will be the Apple Spinach and Tumeric Veggie. Couldn't get used to the taste of blended vegetables even though there are other fruit as well. I would happily go for the Mango Berries or Citrus Kiwi any day! :D

These healthy blended juices is a great way to start your day especially by washing down all the good nutritions the first thing in the morning!

 photo DSC_3947-2.jpg
Baked Vegetable Fritata

Just so you know, the food tasting we had are in small or moderate portion. If we tried the exact portion that KLCGG's serving, our tummy is going to burst! The full sized dish will be at the end of the post ;)

Filled with wholesome ingredients like Omega 3 eggs, mushroom, broccoli, bell Peppers, carrots, onion, tomato and herbs, this is a healthy vegetarian dish that provides sufficient calories to start off the day. The herbs also adds some spice to give a kick to the dish.

 photo DSC_3949-2.jpg
Tuna Guacamole Salad

Served with a generous amount of tuna chunks and guacamole, this salad also has Omega 3 egg, tomato, black olive, onions and seasonal salad on the side. The creamy pine nut dressing with a hint of spiciness definitely opens up the appetite.

 photo DSC_3958-2.jpg
Almond Zucchini Bread & Banana Nut Muffin

What's unique about this two baked items is that the types of flour used is very healthy indeed! Almond flour is used to baked the bread and your can definitely taste and smell the fragrance of the almond which is oh-so-yummy! As for the banana but muffin, coconut flour is used to baked the muffin with no refined sugar. It's not overly sweet like the usual muffins and I love the fact that the taste of nut is overall present in the muffin and has a hint of banana in it.

 photo DSC_3961-2.jpg
Salmon with Warm Tomato Relish

The fragrant butter seared fresh Norwegian salmon is one of my favourite dishes as it is not too oily. The tomato relish is great with the tomato, black olive, onions, capers, basil and some vinegar to pair with the salmon.

 photo DSC_3978-2.jpg
Seared Beef Strip Lion

Well-done beef with Cilantro Chimicurri sauce that goes well with the meat and some healthy steamed vegetables at the side. The surprising thing is that this dish is served with sweet potato mash that is mixed with coconut milk and fresh ginger! Having a sweet potato mash is a first time for me and I love it!

 photo DSC_3994-2.jpg
Thai Green Curry Chicken

I love Thai green curry but this dish it quite mild for my taste as I prefer it to be spicier and usually the texture of the green curry is more creamy. Served with an option of brown rice or caul-rice, I was quite intrigued by the caul-rice as it doesn't taste like any rice I have eaten before. I was surprised when the chef said that it is actually cauliflower mashed with onion, sweet potato, chili flake and herbs! Definitely a healthy option than the normal white rice, and tasty too! :D

 photo DSC_3997-2.jpg
Feeling stuffed from the earlier dishes, we had dessert served and I couldn't resist! There is always room for dessert ;)

We had a mixture of sliced seasonal fruits, sweet potato pie, warm mix berries and coconut ice cream. At first the sweet potato pie was a little bland and dry for my taste. But pairing it with the coconut ice cream, it definitely taste better. The warm mix berries is also served with coconut ice cream to balance the sour taste of the berries, and it is a great dessert to end your meal with. The crowd's favourite was definitely the coconut ice cream!

Obanhmi @ Damansara Uptown

 photo DSC_3043.jpg
One of my friend have been raving to me about this place since last year. Damansara Uptown, being a place where parking is like striking Toto is quite a hassle as parking is always filled. The first time I went, there wasn't a parking spot after a few turns so I had no choice but to give up. However, I finally found a parking spot during my second visit! *happy*

 photo DSC_3040.jpg
I have been dying to try Vietnamese baguette ever since I went to Hanoi last year. I didn't get to try during my trip there as my mom forbade me to have those sold on roadside because it was pretty dusty and lots of motorcycle fumes around :/ Honestly, I don't see much of a problem in it but parents will always be concerned about the health of their child. Finally with Obanhmi opened here in KL, I get to have some Vietnamese baguette!

 photo DSC_3037.jpg
Since it was during lunchtime on a weekday, there wasn't much crowd around so orders were processed really fast. They have also added new stuff to their menu!

 photo DSC_3042.jpg
Simple decor with a cosy setting.

 photo DSC_3029.jpg
Ice Lemon Tea, RM3.50
Not your typical ice lemon tea. It's Vietnamese style which is refreshing and not too sweet!

 photo DSC_3031.jpg
O Sunny, RM9.20
Friend opted out with the ham since she was in a vegetarian diet.

 photo DSC_3036.jpg
O BBQ, RM8.20
Fresh baguette with BBQ pork, egg, homemade mayonnaise, pickled carrot & radish and Vietnamese chili sauce. The BBQ pork taste is nicely blended out with the pickled radish and chili sauce that I like!

Sunday Brunch @ Maison Francaise, Jalan Changkat Kia Peng

 photo DSC_3441-2.jpg
Located on the quiet uphill road of Jalan Changkat Kia Peng, I missed a turning as Waze guided me through the road due to my not-so-sharp eyes. After a one big turn, I finally found this small road that leads up to the restaurant.

 photo DSC_3442-2.jpg
Maison Francaise, or French House is nestled in a three storey bungalow surrounded with greens and a outdoor pool. It is a very calm place that takes you away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

 photo DSC_3330-2.jpg
Needless to say, I fell in love with the interior and overall design of this place! Even though you're in a restaurant, you still get the feeling of being at home. The classy black and white interiors are paired with elegant chandeliers and artistic paintings. With the natural sunlight shining into the restaurant, the atmosphere is serene and cosy.

Table settings are done nicely.

I wish I could stay here all day and relax!

 photo DSC_3375-2.jpg
We started off with a complimentary home made baguette with butter spread while waiting for Chef Franck Lamache to prepare our brunch set. Chef Franck worked in many renowned restaurants and was also the private chef of the President of Kazakhstan!

 photo DSC_3388-2.jpg
Landaise Salad with Smoked Duck Breast and French Green Bean

The dressing slants to the heavy side with the olive oil and creamy texture of the dressing. The side was lined with a tangy vinegar dressing with balance out the taste of the smoke duck and salad. The patterned cut potatoes made the dish really cute!

 photo DSC_3392-2.jpg
Frog Legs and Red Tuna Salad

A more refreshing salad compared to the previous dish. Served with a variety of vegetables like rocket and finely sliced bell peppers, the combination of lemon juice and olive oil gives a fresh and tangy taste when eaten. The red tuna is also freshly served with salt sprinkled on top.

 photo DSC_3405-2.jpg
Roasted Free Range Chicken

The crispy chicken skin was perfect and but the chicken was a little dry. However with the help of the sides which are mashed eggplants with spices added in and marinated cabbage topped with sautéed zucchini and caramelized baby onions evens out the dry meat with a mouthful of flavours.

 photo DSC_3413-2.jpg
Dessert Platter

Served on a black slate, the dessert platter consists of vanilla ice cream, mini chocolate volcano, vanilla & raspberry cake, mini savarin with chantilly cream, and a couple of raspberries.

The vanilla & raspberry cake has a pudding texture with a mix of sweet and sour taste from the combination of ingredients. Had a great start to the dessert platter which delighted us. However, when it came to the mini savarin topped with chantilly cream, we were disappointed. A classic yeast ring cake that is soaked in rum and topped with sweetened, vanilla flavoured whipped cream sounds delightful but the one that we had tasted like something has fermented and it was unpleasant. Not sure what went wrong with this one or perhaps we had not try a savarin cake before to tell the difference?

 photo DSC_3427-2.jpg
Look at the dark rich chocolate flowing out from this mini chocolate volcano! Typical blogger woes where the ice cream melts as you concentrate on feeding your camera first...haha! Definitely one of my favourite dessert due to its mini size. I tend to get sick of eating bigger portions of chocolate desserts after a while. The above however, was great!

 photo DSC_3435-2.jpg
After our heavy meal, it is time to let the stomach settle with a cup of tea! Teas are not included in the brunch menu and it was ordered separately. Sipped my Earl Grey Tea while soaking in the ambience itself.

Zakuro 2 @ Scott Garden

Had the opportunity to go for a food review at Zakuro 2 thanks to Foodirector! This japanese restaurant is located in Scott Garden. They were in the business for more than 10 years already and was previously located in Jalan Ampang before relocating to their current location.

They have a wide array of selections from their menu. Let's take a look at their food!

Sashimi Moriawase
An assorted dish of freshly cut raw seafood which includes salmon, red tuna, white tuna, prawns, scallop and prawns. The seafood is undoubtedly fresh but somehow it lacks flavour. Maybe because it is the way it was cut, which was too thick for us to actually appreciate the taste.

Soft Shell Crab Maki
Found this rather disappointing as the soft shell crab was not crispy and the rice was over processed.

Dragon Roll
Ebi tempura roll topped with avocado. Very generous on the avocado and I quite enjoyed it but like the previous one, the rice was over processed as well >:

Salad Roll
Just a simple dish where the crispy lettuce and rice is wrapped with seaweed. A healthy option if you prefer something more healthy.

Scallop Chawan Mushi
Possibly one of the best dish that I have had that day. The eggs were steamed to perfection and the texture was really smooth too! Not to mention the huge scallop that comes with it as well :)

Salmon Lover
If you love salmon, try this platter which comes with the regular salmon sashimi and other different types of salmon sushi.

Salmon Salad
Raw salmon, cook salmon and salmon skin with wasabi dressing. The fried salmon skin is an interesting one, quite yummy and crispy actually. But the rest is just alright...maybe if they put more mayo in the salad instead at the top, then it will be better since it is salad.

Sashimi Salad
Raw sashimi with mixed fruit, tempura batter crunches and wasabi dressing. Strikes me as a fruit salad at first until I looked closely and to me, fruits and sashimi does not mix well.

Seafood Teppanyaki

Tori Teppanyaki
This two teppanyaki dish is quite a let down as the end product tasted more like a Chinese stir fried dish instead of a unique Japanese dish.

Gindara Mentaiko
Fried cod fish covered with fish roe and batayaki sauce which tasted really salty. If it was less salty then it would be perfect as both the cod fish and fish roe is tasty.

Gindara Seaweed Butter
Grilled black cod with garlic mushroom and seaweed butter. Only had a small bite of the cod fish which was really fresh and well cooked.

Hiyashi Ramen
Cold ramen with thinly sliced prawns and vegetables. It is topped with a really awesome sesame sauce which brought out all the ingredients flavour. Definitely another dish that I will order if I am ever in Zaukuro 2.

Mentaiko Yaki
Stir fried udon with cod roe and shitake mushroom. Never had stir fried udon before and I am quite surprised by the rich flavour that this dish had. Tasted real good especially with the smooth and chewy noodles as well.

Unagi
Not as meaty I thought it would be but it still tasted good.

Sesame & Green Tea Ice Cream
I am not the type to fancy sesame and green tea ice cream however this really suited my taste buds as the flavour is not too strong. I like that it is sweet and also lightly flavoured compared to the usual ones which are really heavy. The red bean paste also gives an additional flavour to the ice cream which I love as well.
